The Nico Williams saga had been going for a considerable time at the Catalan club, much before Dani Olmo's signing. Even though FC Barcelona had done everything, from agreeing on personal terms to presenting a good enough financial offer and having the money for his release clause, Nico's final decision to stay at Athletic halted the winger's dream move.

Though some sources hold Nico's promise to his brother to stay at Athletic and some hold Barca's inadequate financial readiness to accommodate Nico Williams at the club as the possible reason, Nico's decision had almost made it certain he won't be arriving at Barca this summer. However, some recent reports have mentioned something interesting that might make this cold deal alive again.

Recently, Barca insider Toni Juanmarti brought an important observation regarding Nico's potential move into the media spotlight. He pointed out that there must be some hidden and silent plan at Barça regarding Nico Williams, due to which they are still hoping for his move. He further mentioned that considering Barca's latest signing of Dani Olmo, who possesses the versatility to feature on the left wing, the club should have forgotten about Nico.

As reports had emerged, Barca planned to sign more than one big player, and thus, as Barca's increasing interest in a left winger has resurged, chances are that Flick might approve one such signing. Currently, the Nico Williams saga isn't over, as the Catalan club still hopes to bring him into the left-wing role.

Some reports suggest that Barça is optimistic and wants to try to sign Nico Williams. Moreover, the club is still paying attention to other players in recent days, like Coman and Federico Chiesa, for the left flank. Recently, Kingsley Coman has been offered to FC Barcelona, who have worked under Flick and might be a suitable fill-in for the role. Not only Coman, but Barca are also considering Chiesa to reinforce their left wing, given Juventus demanding not more than €20M.

Though updates on Nico's future are yet to arrive, the possibility of Barca spending on a high-profile winger this summer isn't ruled out as they continue to look for options like Chiesa and Coman for the role.
