What’s the Need?

One of the vital reasons for Barcelona's underwhelming 23/24 campaign was their inability to control the midfield for longer durations of time. Having Pedri sidelined for the majority of last season, the Catalan club lacked creativity and fluidity in the final third.

On top of that, Gavi's mid-season ACL injury made Xavi's counter-press vulnerable. With more than four months until the Spaniard returns to full fitness, the Catalan club needs a press-resistant, box-to-box midfielder.

Player Profile:

Adrien Rabiot, a regular starter for the French National team, boasts sufficient experience to cater to the Blaugrana midfield. Operating as a press-resistant midfielder, additionally, the Frenchman possesses goal-scoring abilities to make his offensive presence felt.

Currently on International Duty at the Euros, the WC winner recently spoke about his future,

"“My focus is 100% here, then obviously I’m always in contact with the club. If I’m not under contract, I’m no longer a Juventus player.”"

After spending 5 years at the Old Lady, Rabiot can be the ideal Barca midfielder alongside De Jong and Pedri.

Economics of the Deal:

Rabiot's former club, Juventus had proposed their best offer worth over €7M/year to continue availing of the player's services. However, no update from the former Juve player led to his 5-year contract at the Allianz stadium officially ending on 30th June 2024, making the player up for grabs on a free transfer. Meanwhile, Rabiot's mother, his agent, has offered the player to FC Barcelona.

Gerard Romero(@JijantesFC) offered a fresh update on the situation. The update mentioned that the Frenchman wants a salary worth €8M/year.

Now, it's up to Rabiot to decide whether to renew with Juve or wait for interest from the Catalan Giants. If the Blaugrana club agrees to pursue him, he could fill in the missing piece of the Barca midfield.
