The past few weeks have seen Barca's steady and gradual progress in signing the 22-year-old winger Nico Williams. Though the announcements and proposals started amidst the Euro tournament only, Barca was waiting for the conclusion of the Euros to sign the personal agreements with the player.

After Spain's triumph in the Euro final against England in a nervy encounter, the Catalan club didn't waste even a second to start the official agreement process with Nico. Even though the winger's buzz is such that many clubs from the Premier League have shown interest, the player's priority is Barcelona, and that has been a big positive for the deal.

Barca is close as ever to Nico Williams

According to the reports, Barca wants to be quick to complete the signing of Nico, as the Barcelona board seems confident regarding the player's move. Moreover, reportedly, Deco, the sporting director of Barca, held a meeting with Williams' agent to sign him as soon as possible.

As of now, nothing has been confirmed, but as significant progress is being made between Nico and Barca, the club seems as close as ever for Williams. According to Barca insider Toni Juanmarti, the club seems to be going all out to make Nico a Barca player.

According to Transfer Expert Fabrizio Romano, Barca made their proposal to Nico Williams in their recent meeting as they tried to agree on personal terms before PL clubs. Moreover, Gerard Romero reported that Barca will be willing to activate the release clause for Nico as the time comes.

Interestingly, Hansi Flick's friend, German icon Lothar Matthaus, had a say on Nico's ongoing deal,

"“I hope Barça will sign Nico Williams. My friend Hansi Flick dreams of it.”"

Though Matthaus has given his best wishes to Barca, official confirmation regarding Nico's transfer is still awaited. As conveyed, Hansi Flick sees Basque winger Nico Williams as a big prospect for the club's future and believes his duo with Barca sensation Lamine Yamal can work wonders for his new Barca project.
