Since 30th July marked the end of the loan spell of Joao Cancelo at the Blaugrana club, the Portuguese fullback has been trying to return to the Catalan camp. According to Barca's initial plan, the star fullback, who had a tremendous loan spell, was confirmed to be a part of Barca's new project; however, the situation has changed drastically against Cancelo.

Even though FC Barcelona considered him in their plans, their preferred pathway allowed another loan transfer for Cancelo, which doesn't align with Manchester City. The Etihad club has made it clear that they won't allow another loan and would sell Joao Cancelo to the highest bidder. Having sufficient options in the fullback role, the PL Giants are determined to get rid of him.

Barca seems unlikely to sign Joao Cancelo

According to reports from Mundo Deportivo, Manchester City has asked £25M for the Portuguese fullback. Barca, however, indulged in the massive cash transfers of Nico Williams, and Dani Olmo doesn't feel willing to sign Cancelo on these terms. On the other hand, Al-Ahli and Al-Ettifaq of the Saudi Pro League are ready to pay €30M to sign Joao Cancelo.

However, the player's preference remains the same, and he is still waiting for Barça and doesn't prioritize moving anywhere else. As per Barca's preference, Jorge Mendes has been trying to work on a loan but has had no success. Flick considers Cancelo one of the best right-backs in the world, and thus Barca would try if they could get him.

But, in case nothing works out between FC Barcelona and Manchester City for another loan, Hansi Flick has Cancelo's alternative ready. Reports from Mundo Deportivo indicate that if Barça cannot sign Cancelo, they would be fine with Jules Koundé, Julián Araujo, and Héctor Fort at right back for next season.

Though further updates regarding Cancelo's transfer move are yet to arrive, Barca hopes they close in the Nico Williams deal quickly and plan to bring Joao Cancelo back to the Blaugrana club.
