FC Barcelona has marked a brilliant start to their 2024/25 campaign. Managing the complete 12 points from the first four fixtures, the club currently is at the top of the La Liga table and would like to maintain it ahead. While the club's overall performance has been pinpointed, the only issue constantly triggering the Blaugrana squad is their thin squad depth.
FC Barcelona to rival Real Madrid for Bayern's star pivot midfielder
In particular, the club only has two pivot midfielders available currently, with stars like Gavi and Frenkie De Jong injured. While Pedri and Marc Casafo have been doing the job quite well since Bernal's ACL injury, the club certainly needs to look for reinforcements. Regarding the same, the club is looking for a long-term option in Bayern's star pivot player.
Not to forget, one of the players that were closely being rumored with FC Barcelona early this summer, after Flick's arrival, was Bayern's star, Joshua Kimmich. Having been an integral part of Bayern's sextuple victory in the 2019/20 season under Hansi Flick, the player has been one of the favorites of the German manager. And now, reports have again resurfaced, linking a possible reunion of the two.
With Kimmich's contract running down in the summer of 2025, many European clubs would certainly be in the race to have him. In fact, Mundo Deportivo's reports suggest that while it isn't certain whether Kimmich would leave Bayern or not, several clubs, including FC Barcelona, are monitoring him. Though there would be plenty of options for the German ace, Flick's presence would be an added advantage for FC Barcelona.
Moreover, reports indicate that Barca's old rivals, Real Madrid, also seem interested in signing Joshua Kimmich. Given the pivot midfielder's abilities, he certainly stands a significant chance to make it to any European lineup currently. Thus, while Flick's double-pivot system should be an easy option for Kimmich to choose, Barca might need to rival Real Madrid for him.
Currently, there aren't further updates available on Kimmich's future club. While talks have begun between Bayern and the player for renewal, it is also a possibility that he might stay. However, if he wishes to move, Barca would be more than eager to sign him.
