Former Serie A ace moves one step closer of being an FC Barcelona keeper

Since FC Barcelona faced the injury of their priority number 1 Ter Stegen, whose reports indicate him being out for around 8 months, the club has been on the lookout for suitable replacements. However, finally, it seems that their search is successfully over, as they have chosen Polish International Wojciech Szczęsny to be their replacement signing.

Having featured for some of the biggest European clubs, Juventus, Arsenal, and AS Roma, the ex-Juve star was Barca's priority considering his indulgence at the top level most recently, as compared to the alternatives. In his illustrious career, the 34-year-old has been the cup winners of both the English and the Italian League, while being a Serie A champion three times.

Moreover, even for his national side, Wojciech Szczęsny holds great numbers, giving much credibility to Barca's choice of preferring him for the role. Transfer Expert Fabrizio Romano's reports had already mentioned that he would sign his official one-year contract for Barca on Monday, having his medical tests in the coming week.

As per recent reports from Diario SPORT, the veteran keeper would be presented as the new Barcelona signing by the club on Wednesday. However, the reports mention that the club would need to make a bit of a change in their salary bill to accommodate him. Not to forget, the Catalan club had to utilize the salary space of injured stars Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen to register Dani Olmo, and now it seems to be the case with Ter Stegen.

Mundo Deportivo reports that unregistering the Club Captain Ter Stegen would not only allow Szczęsny's registration but also have Olmo registered permanently. Moreover, the club would have the former Juventus number 1 registered with the Champions League and be signed as the club's starting goalkeeper.

Overall, the veteran's one-year Barcelona contract, which will be officiated soon, will make him an FC Barcelona player. The Culers would hope that the 34-year-old star helps the club in making the 2024/25 campaign one of the most successful ones in the club's history.
