Sergi Roberto, one of the mainstays for FC Barcelona for years, said goodbye to the club after spending around 18 years at the Blaugrana club. Even though he had communicated it later, he was well aware that Barca might not consider him in their new project, and he would have to part ways with the club.
Is it still possible for Sergi Roberto to continue at Barcelona?
However, since the veteran Spaniard has left, some reports are emerging that reflect upon the possibility that Sergi Roberto may continue at Barca. Even though he no longer gets represented as a Barcelona player, the question arises: Is it still possible for Sergi Roberto to continue at FC Barcelona?
According to recent reports from Diario Sport, Deco met Sergi Roberto's agents this week and told them the player is in the plans of the club for next season but under extreme conditions. Barça could offer him a downward contract, but he would only be registered if the club had enough salary margin and there was no one left to register.
Moreover, not long ago, Mundo Deportivo had reflected on the possibility that Barcelona could use 80% of Ronald Araujo’s salary space to register players for the next season. For this, they would need to prove to La Liga that the Uruguayan defender will be out of action for more than four months.
Analyzing the current situation, even if Barca does manage to utilize Araujo's salary space, it would still be difficult for the Catalan club to retain their former captain, Roberto. Still having some important players left in the unregistered pool, Barca's priority list might not feature their Remontada hero.
Thus, as Hansi Flick communicated in his official presentation,
""Sergi Roberto? At the moment, he is not a Barcelona player.""Hansi Flick
It doesn't look like the Spanish full-back would be seen representing the Blaugrana club anymore. And, as it seems, Sergi Roberto would have to consider a move to the Premier League amidst the rising interest from Arsenal, West Ham, and Aston Villa. Thus, Sergi Roberto to Barcelona is 99% over, and the rest is faith.
