While it is a certain truth that FC Barcelona has gotten to a beautiful start in the new La Liga campaign, the club's injury issues have seen a downhill only. Not to forget, Barca's 2-1 victory against Rayo Vallecano had come at the cost of their star prodigy, Marc Bernal's ACL injury. And now, recent reports suggest that the club has faced another massive injury blow.
Massive blow for FC Barcelona as breakout Star faces muscle injury
On the ongoing international break, several FC Barcelona players were called up for the national duty. Superstars like Robert Lewandowski, Jules Kounde, Dani Olmo, Pedri, and Lamine Yamal were the most notable names of the nine players called up. However, the list also included Barca's breakout star of the last campaign, Fermin Lopez.
Coming on the back of a successful Olympics campaign, followed by a short holiday, Fermin wasn't much utilized by Barcelona boss Flick. Being out of many game minutes, with Flick giving him some time to transition into the new setup and having an extremely long 2023/24 campaign, Fermin was on the verge of being injured, and the obvious did happen.
In his recent media address, President Laporta showed much sadness, announcing Fermin's injury,
""We have received bad news that Fermin has been injured. He has not done the preseason with us; he has played many games this summer. It is a setback.""Joan Laporta
As per recent reports from Barca insider Adria Albets, Fermin has faced an injury to the quadriceps of his left leg. While the Barça doctors are yet to carry out tests to know exactly the injury's extent, the first indications are that it is a minor injury, with Fermin estimated to be out for a month.
Analyzing from Barca's perspective, the recent setback from Fermin's injury might prove significantly fatal. Just after the international break, FC Barcelona is set to play 6-7 matches within the first three weeks, and the club will surely miss the midfielder's absence. Given Fermin's utility, he could be easily involved in a rotated setup in place of Dani Olmo or even Pedri, or might even come crucial in the super sub role.
Clearly, FC Barcelona has faced a massive setback, with Fermin picking up a muscle injury. Firstly, Marc Bernal and now, Fermin, the club's injury issues worsened, and the club would just hope not to lose any player further during the break. While it would be extremely difficult for Hansi Flick to find Fermin's alternative, it remains to be seen how the German mastermind tackles the issue.
