Coming off a tremendous debut season with the Blaugrana, Joao Cancelo's loan spell ends on June 30th. Powering the backline with a brilliant offensive presence, the Portuguese international has won the support of President Joan Laporta and Co. However, Barca's financial conditions make Joao's stay difficult at the club, given his parent club, Manchester City, refraining from another loan, Diario Sport revealed.
The Etihad Club is looking for 40 million euros for Cancelo. With significant interest from their neighborhood PL clubs and given his previous feud with the City Boss, Pep won't mind offloading him. However, given the Portuguese desire to stay at the Catalan club amidst Laporta making up his mind for the full-back, Jorge Mendes now has to ensure a deal between the two clubs.
Pep's say on Cancelo's transfer deal
Recently, Pep gave a bold statement when asked about Joao's future at the Etihad. He said,
"“It has to be the best for everyone.”"Pep Guardiola(via ElGolazoDeGol)
Further, Pep said,
"“The two clubs will sit down. He is our player, and if an agreement is not reached, he will have to return in the preseason. If he wants to stay here and the clubs agree, it will be done again.”"Pep Guardiola(via ElGolazoDeGol)
Having said this, Guardiola has put forward City's plan for Cancelo. Given that the Cityzens are reluctant to sign another loan, adding players to the deal could be an option for the Catalan Giants to extend Cancelo's presence at Camp Nou.
In this scenario, Mendes's role becomes significant. Having managed multiple star players throughout his career, the Portuguese must pull off something incredible to make the deal a win-win situation for both clubs.
