FC Barcelona has recently completed the massive transfer of Dani Olmo, which would cost the Blaugrana club around €55M in fixed and €7M in variables. Clearly, given Barca's financial conditions, the transfer won't come easy for the Catalan club, and they want to sell a big name to manage things effectively.

As a part of the club's strategy to accommodate such heavy signings, Barca had hoped to sell Araujo, De Jong, and Ansu Fati this summer, but their injuries haven't helped Barca's case. In particular, the club had planned to get rid of De Jong, who has been injured since April, and his hefty wages have been a burden for Barcelona since his joining.

Though FC Barcelona has renewed De Jong's contract, chances are that they might consider selling him given he has the highest wages in La Liga, €37.5M, and is nearing a return. Regarding the same, a Premier League powerhouse has shown significant interest in the Dutch midfielder's signing.

According to recent reports, Manchester United have approached the Blaugrana club over the possibility of signing Frenkie de Jong this summer. However, the Red Devils would only move for De Jong if his price is around £30M-£40M.

Not to forget, Manchester United had come very close to signing De Jong in the summer of 2022; however, the player's preference changed the transfer's scenario, keeping De Jong at Barca. And it seems that the Red Devils are still not over the player, as they see De Jong as the ideal prospect to reinforce their midfield.

Erik Ten Hag, being a Dutchman, has been a keen admirer of Frenkie De Jong for a long time, and thus, the chances of United pursuing De Jong in the future can't be ruled out. Considering Barca's current situation, De Jong's offer price may be an issue as they don't look favorable to selling their star midfielder for only £40M.

Thus, even though further updates on the potential transfer are yet to arrive, Barcelona won't proceed with United for anything below £50M.
