This story comes on the back of the news over the weekend that prospective new Barcelona coach Hansi Flick was ready to raid Liverpool for two other of their players; Thiago and Luis Díaz.

And now it is claimed the Catalan club wants to bring a third Reds star, Núñez, to the Blaugrana in order to replace the 35-year-old Polish international.

Lewandowski had a slightly under-par campaign this season netting eighteen times in La Liga and experiencing a few barren spells in front of the goal.

That was in part at least a result of the struggles Barcelona had at times as they tried in vain to keep pace with Real Madrid.

As well as other players failing to hit the heights, the Catalans had the ongoing saga over coach Xavi's future, which ultimately ended in his sacking.

It appears very likely that Flick will succeed him and he has now been linked with moves for three Liverpool players already.

The German has a lot of issues to deal with given the Blaugrana's financial problems, an ageing squad in need of re-building and a Real team very likely to bring in yet another World-class attacking talent when Kylian Mbappé joins Los Blancos this summer.

The Pole has had a glittering career in Europe - in particular with German clubs Borussia Dortmund and then Bayern Munich - and is still one of the best strikers in the business.

He also knows Flick very well as he was Lewandowski's coach in the latter period when the Poland star was scoring a glut of goals with Bayern from 2014 to 2022.

At the moment he seems content to stay in Catalonia and continue to ply his trade in the Spanish sunshine for a few mores years at least.

But of course Lewandowski cannot go on forever and at some point he will need to be replaced as Barca's main goal-scoring threat.

So, could Núñez be that replacement? The Uruguayan international has had a difficult, up and down and inconsistent time at Anfield.

He did score eleven goals in the Premier League, which is not too bad and has looked very dangerous in some games while in others the 24-year-old seems to drift in and out of matches.

In addition, his strongest position seems to be starting out on the left wing and cutting inside from there, rather than playing as an orthodox centre-forward.

The other intangible is whether Arne Slot wants to keep Núñez or for that matter the other players lined with Barça as he takes over the reins at Anfield.

Anyway, it is all of course just speculation. It would not though be a total surprise if at least one of these Liverpool players ended up at the Camp Nou this summer.
