Star Barca defender's contract situation complicates at the club
- Ronald Araujo faced an injury during the Copa fixture between Uruguay and Brazil.
- Araujo didn't return to Barcelona for further tests and this casual attitude might complicate his Barca future.
As the Euro 2024 and Copa America tournaments move toward an end, club football is waiting to arrive in the arena soon. Though some clubs have started announcing their signings, some wait for these international tournaments to conclude. Interestingly, these tournaments have had an undeniable effect on FC Barcelona's next season preparations.
Araujo faced hamstring injury during Copa
Not long ago, in the Copa America fixture between Uruguay and Brazil, Barca faced another injury, which shattered the club's morale. Ronald Araujo, who had been the leader of the Barca backline, was subbed off by Marcelo Bielsa after he stretched his hamstring to stop a crossball. Though reports had estimated that he would be able to come back in a few weeks, Araujo's intent to his injury might prove fatal for his future at Barca.
According to recent reports, anger is fuming in the Barcelona board regarding the player's casual attitude towards his injury. The club had instructed Araujo to return to Barcelona for further tests, which could have made his recovery earlier. However, Ronald Araujo decided to remain in Uruguay until the end of Copa America.
Araujo's future complicates at Barca
Though this would have been praised by the Uruguayan staff, the Barca board doesn't seem happy with the player's decision. Pessimism is growing in the Catalan club about the player's future. Moreover, according to some sources, people have started imagining that Barca may offload the Uruguayan defender as many offers having huge cash have been put up for him.
Just to remind you, Bayern had offered two proposals for the star defender last season. Having stakes worth €70+20 M and €80+10 M, it was certainly not a bad deal to consider. However, Barca declined the offer as they wanted Araujo to lead the backline from the front.
Given the defender's caliber, there is no doubt that he should be kept free from layoff, but the player's attitude might influence some major repercussions on his future. Thus, it remains to be seen if Barca would continue with Araujo, bring a replacement with his transfer fee, or promote Faye's role at the backline.
