FC Barcelona has been significantly active in the last few weeks of the summer transfer window for player sales. Being aware of the fact that Olmo's registration would be escalated only if the club makes various exit moves, Barca has made player transfers their topmost priority. Firstly, Julian Araujo, then Mika Faye, and now Clement Lenglet, the Blaugrana club, is on a sales spree.

After Lenglet's Aston Villa loan ended in June, it was uncertain whether the Frenchman would remain as important for Barca as he once used to be. Despite performing decently in the club's Preseason tour, Lenglet's continuation at Barca looked anyway difficult. Having one of the highest salaries in the squad due to the deferrals, keeping him would have cost Barcelona €19M this season.

Not the favorite for the center-back role, accompanied by the club's critical conditions, it was decided that he would leave Barça either in the form of a loan deal or permanent transfer. Since the club decided to depart the defender, Atletico Madrid has been in negotiations to sign Clement Lenglet from Barcelona.

Being the player's preference as well, Atleti was almost certain to end up with the player this summer, with just negotiations on how much salary they would pay for him. As per reports from Diario SPORT, Atleti will pay 80% of Lenglet's salary on a loan deal. In fact, FC Barcelona made Lenglet renew his contract for two more seasons, deferring his salary by four years to gain some space in the salary limit for Olmo's registration.

Recently, Transfer Expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed Lenglet's loan move to Atletico, stating he would leave on a loan with a no-buy option for the Rojiblancos club. The report further stated that the French defender is set to complete a move, with Atleti bearing the major part of the defender's salary.

Analyzing from the Blaugrana club's perspective, Lenglet's departure would free a considerable amount on their wage bill. In fact, it is being reported that Gundogan's departure, combined with Lenglet's move to Atletico and a potential move of Vitor Roque, would allow the club to free up about €36M of salary space.
