Since their loan deal ended on 30th June 2024, the Joaos duo, Joao Cancelo, and Joao Felix, have been wanting to be a part of the new Barcelona setup again. The Portuguese duo has the nation that Barca presents the best environment for them to succeed. Moreover, after spending a brilliant 2023/24 campaign, the duo can't imagine themselves away from the Blaugrana club.
The situation of Joaos has seen many turns, while the thing that hasn't changed in the process is their parent club's demand not to offer them on loan again. While Barcelona have been wanting a big sale to collect funds for Olmo's signing, the Catalan club looks unlikely to make a move for the Portuguese duo.
The 'Joaos' seem moving away from their FC Barcelona dream
Recent reports from Barca insider Victor Navarro suggest that Man City and Atlético Madrid demand more than just a loan for Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix, respectively. He further mentions that the clubs want either an immediate purchase for their players or a loan conditioned with a mandatory purchase.
Moreover, Joao Felix has started the preseason already with Atletico, and having a goal in his first game, Felix has been named the starter for their second preseason game. On top of that, Diego Simeone doesn't feel bothered having him back, he said,
""Joao Félix is an Atléti player, and as long as he is with Atléti, we will evaluate him based on how he works, just as we do with all the players on the team.""Diego Simeone
Praising his performance against Getafe, he mentioned,
""He played a good match in the 45 minutes he had to play against Getafe the other day.""Diego Simeone
Something similar happened in the case of Joao Cancelo, as he joined the Man City group training again. Add to that the prominent rise of Pau Victor in the forward's role and Gerard Martin and Alex Valle in the full-back role. Considering the current scenario, it stands that Barça will listen to Hansi Flick, but the club will not move for the two if the young players convince Flick.
Thus, even though a lot can change in the situation of the Joaos at FC Barcelona, currently, the chances of the two look slim as Barca wants to sign Joao Felix and Cancelo on loan again, but City and Atleti want permanent transfers.
