It's very unlikely that FC Barcelona is gonna sign any more players this transfer window. The restrictions are under financial fair play, which won't let the Catalan giants register new players unless they balance their books.

So, what does a club do in this situation? The team is underperforming, and the squad is still under development. There are many missing pieces in the puzzle. Unsurprisingly, Barça is going to use the same strategy that they had previously turned to.

The trick is to sign players that require no financial investment for the release clause, i.e. sign players whose contracts are on the verge of expiration. The sports management has detected one such player on the Canary Islands.

According to Fabrizio Romano, FC Barcelona is tracking Las Palmas defender Sergi Cardona. Also, Barça has already made the initial contact.

"🇪🇸 Sergi Cardona, out of contract at Las Palmas in June — big opportunity as several clubs from top 5 leagues have approached his agents.

🔵🔴 Barcelona are tracking him and also called his agents in the recent months.

One to watch in summer 2024, for sure."

The Italian journalist also mentions that many other clubs from the top five leagues have approached his agent. This is gonna be a dog-eat-dog competition as signing a free talent is the best deal you can get in the market.

Romano also mentions that this is something to lookout for in the Summer 2024 market, but still Barcelona has started playing their cards this early. This just goes to show how desperately the Spanish club wants to revitalize their squad but cannot sign any new players because of the FFP restrictions.

Although, this is nothing compared to the situation when Joan Laporta took over for a second term. The club only signed free agents like Gündoğan and Christensen, who proved to be top quality signings for a release clause of 0 bucks.
