FC Barcelona has started their season very well. With 12 points, the Blaugrana club finds itself quite comfortable at the top of the La Liga table. While everything seems to have been going in the right direction lately, thanks to the club President Laporta and the German tactician Hansi Flick, a former Barca presidential candidate, has recently aimed at Laporta's promises and the club's overall vision.

Not to forget, when FC Barcelona held the infamous 2021 presidential elections, there were two other candidates alongside Joan Laporta. While eventually, Laporta won, coming back to the board after having served from 2003 to 2010 at the club, the second favorite candidate was Victor Font.

Having claimed to have the vision to change things for good, Font was believed to be a serious candidate for the role. However, destiny had its plans, and Laporta became the President again. But, as has always been, Font has remained in the headlines due to his opinions on the club's policies and performance, and once again, Font has commented, this time on Laporta's previous promises.

Speaking about the promises Laporta had made and what happened, Font pointed out Nico Williams' case. Font mentioned,

""We started the summer saying that we love him and we ended it saying that we are not talking about players from other clubs...""

Though it has been a blunder on Laporta's part that he made a promise that hadn't been materialized in any case. Given the club's situation in which they were forced to use Christensen's injury for Olmo's registration, Williams' case would have caused significant trouble for FC Barcelona financially.

Not only this, but Font seemed critical of another key mistake that had raised many eyebrows last month. Font believes that the club shouldn't have let go of Gundogan and that there were more reasons other than, as mentioned by the club, for the veteran's departure. Font said,

""What they did with Gündogan is unacceptable. They have made up the fact that he left because of a sporting decision. Nobody believes it.""

Everybody knew that even at the age of 33, the veteran was coming on the back of a successful La Liga campaign, where he stood among the best midfielders in the league. Moreover, reports had surfaced suggesting that the club's decorum hadn't been the same after the unfortunate argument between Gundogan and Ronald Araujo. Thus, while nobody knows exactly the reason behind Gundogan's departure, Font's claim can be true as well.

Already having mentioned many times before that he possesses the idea to lead FC Barcelona in the right direction, Victor Font has this time openly said about conducting the elections, again, for the Presidential position. Font said,

""I call on Joan Laporta to hold elections in 2025.""

As per notifications, FC Barcelona's presidential elections are scheduled to be conducted in the summer of 2026. Even though Font has made a plea, chances are less that the election would get preponed. However, with the confidence Font is showing about the next elections, it remains to be seen whether Laporta would continue or a new era would start at the Blaugrana club.
