As Spain gloried past England in a nerve-wracking encounter on July 15, the Euro tournament ended with the best team of the Tournament as Champions. With the authorities nominating both the Player of the Tournament and the Young Player of the Tournament from the Spanish team, the decision felt completely relevant.
Though the Tournament had started with a long string of Superstars, only a few performed to their actual potential. Topping the performance chart was Lamine Yamal, as the youngster managed to register his name amongst some of the greatest players to ever feature in the Euros.
Lamine Yamal secures the right wing position in Euro Team of the Tournament
The Euro tournament had been completely stellar for Yamal. Managing five goal contributions, including a golazo against France in the semi-finals, the youth sensation was a delight to watch. Though everybody had expected him to bag the Player of the Tournament award, the youngster did bring in the Young Player of the Tournament award.
Recently, when the Euro team of the Tournament was declared by the officials, Yamal secured the right wing slot for his consistent performances in the Euros. Undoubtedly, the team included six players from the Champion squad, two starters from France, and one Player each from England, Germany, and Switzerland.
In the Best XI, the attack was comprised of Musiala leading the offensive duties and the irresistible duo of Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams coming from the wings. The whole midfield was Spanish, including Player of the Tournament winner Rodri and Fabian Ruiz at the central midfield, with Dani Olmo at the front, who won the Golden Boot award.
At the defense, Cucurella and Walker owned the full-back slot, and Saliba and Akanji played the central defensive role. Maignan, who had an extraordinary Euro campaign, was deservedly given the goalkeeper spot.
Though all of the above-mentioned players performed extraordinarily brilliantly, Yamal's showcase was simply exceptional for his age. Bagging in the Young Player of the Tournament award, he continued the streak of Barca's youngsters roping in the prestigious award for fun. In the last edition of Euros, Pedri had proven his mettle, and this time, it was all Yamal show at the Euros.
Considering his recent form, Barca needs to take extra care of his growth at the club, as the youngster seems to have the potential to achieve everything. In his Spanish teammate Rodri's words,
""Keep working, brother. Keep working because you can achieve whatever you want.""Rodri
With the club football action ready to kick in, FC Barcelona would hope that Yamal continues his rich vein of form for the club. Moreover, if Barca manages to sign Nico Williams, they will boast of a great future as the duo looks enough to take on the most challenging opponents any day.
