Barcelona needs 90 more minutes to claim La Liga title, and Real Madrid gets to watch.

With 85 points in 33 games, Barcelona sit at the top of La Liga, 11 points clear of second-place Real Madrid. With five games left, Madrid have been virtually eliminated. But there is something truly remarkable about how this story unfolds over the next two weeks.

There are two ways for Barcelona to clinch the title at the earliest. Real Madrid gets humiliated in both scenarios.

Scenario one: Champions before the El Clasico

Real Madrid will take on Espanyol at home on May 3, while Barcelona will be on the road to face Osasuna on May 2. If Barcelona defeat Osasuna, and Madrid falter to Espanyol, either drawing or losing, the point deficit would increase to 14.

With just 4 games left and maximum 12 points possible, the title is done for. This outcome would seal the title for Barcelona, clinching the title as soon as Madrird drop points.

That is the moment all Barca fans have been waiting for. Real Madrid will have to form a 'Guard of Honour' for the eventual champions at the Spotify Camp Nou on May 10. And this will all happen in front of the fans, who can finally witness their team take the crown at their historic ground.

However, this scenario hinges on Espanyol pulling off a significant upset over the Madrid giants. An Espanyol team which is fighting relegation.

Espanyol has a tough match against a hungry Real Madrid side that needs every available point to have a shot at closing the gap. But looking at Madrid's form, anything can happen.

Scenario two: Champions at the El Clasico

Should Madrid go on to win against Espanyol, the league title can be decided in a colossal clash on May 10. The biggest club football game in the world, El Clasico.

To be confirmed as champions, Barcelona would need at least a point at Camp Nou. A draw or a win would force Real Madrid to watch Barcelona win another title at the very place where all their nightmares come true.

No matter what, the league title will end up in Barcelona. The question now is which version of the story, the world will witness.

What this season entails

Barcelona has a league-high 28 wins this season in 33 league games. They've also scored 87 goals while conceding just 30, a +57 goal difference.

This has been accomplished mainly with the services of arguably the best player in the world, Lamine Yamal, and midfield maestro Pedri, who is applauded by even rival fans. The whole squad has performed incredibly under the management of Hansi Flick.

The Blaugrana has multiple ways to win the league, and the margin of error for Real Madrid gets smaller and smaller every matchday.

This title was not won by luck or chance, but rather earned: point by point, match by match over a grueling season. This level of consistency from Barcelona is impressive.

This becomes more commendable when looking at the fact that Hansi Flick was given only a fraction of the transfer budget compared to Real Madrid and Atletico.

One way or another, Barcelona will win their 29th La Liga title, and Real Madrid will have front-row seats to watch it happen.
