Sergio Busquets has returned to Barcelona. Barcelona officially revealed on Monday that the former midfielder has been appointed as an assistant coach for Barca Atletic.
Busquets will be working under head coach and former teammate Juliano Belletti. He is currently in the process of obtaining his coaching qualifications. A place with the club's second team offers him the opportunity to gain practical experience, and experience coaching life before receiving his badges.
This is a perfect scenario for both Busquets and Barcelona. He spent more than a decade revolutionising the role of the holding midfielder at Camp Nou and in his appointment there's an opportunity for the young players at La Masia to learn tactical awareness from one of the most intelligent tacticians to have worn the Blaugrana jersey.
By taking up an assistant manager role as opposed to a more high-profile managerial post, Busquets has the chance to ease his transition into management and in Belletti he has a coach who should be able to impart knowledge and help him develop Barca Atletic's burgeoning talent into a potential first team option for Hansi Flick.
