Barcelona’s search for a new centre-forward is becoming clearer, with their pursuit of Julián Álvarez set to intensify after their key Premier League alternative ruled himself out for this season.
Talk of a move for the Atlético Madrid striker has gone relatively quiet over the past week, with Álvarez likely enjoying his holiday while the La Liga club continue to insist that the Argentine is not for sale.
As a result, Barcelona’s search is increasingly turning towards alternative targets, with several names being linked with a move to the Catalan giants. However, one of the club’s and Deco’s options, currently in the Premier League, has now ruled himself out of a transfer after reportedly committing his future to his current club.
That man is Joao Pedro. The Brazilian forward had been linked to Barcelona over the summer but now Chelsea have acted by offered new improved terms on his contract.
Pedro is already tied to the Blues until 2032 after signing a seven-year contract following his arrival from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer of 2025. Despite having several years remaining on his deal, Chelsea have recognised the growing interest in their star centre-forward and have acted quickly, offering him an improved salary to fend off potential suitors.
After being linked to strikers far and wide, it seems a Premier League goalscorer will not be making a move to La Liga to join the champions.
Another Striker Down?
The future of Ferran Torres is very much up in the air, with Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona set for talks over a potential transfer for the Spanish striker. The World Cup winner is now reportedly open to a move to the French capital, adding another twist to what is becoming an increasingly interesting transfer saga.
The reigning two-time Champions League winners are reportedly going “all out” for Ferran, with the two parties seemingly already close to agreeing personal terms. The next step is negotiations between the clubs, with Barcelona reportedly open to letting him leave, something that, surprisingly, is a wrong move when signing Alvarez is looking likely.
After all, Ferran has just come off an impressive season and a strong World Cup campaign, so the idea of Barcelona willingly waving goodbye to him feels like a decision that just doesn’t make sense.
