Last Saturday, was the long awaited start of La Liga 2025/26. FC Barcelona had an opening game in Estadi Mallorca Son Moix against R.C.D Mallorca where the score ended in favor of the blaugrana club with three goals and the first three points of the season.
The match was full of expectations, as it was the debut of the team under Hansi Flick's second season as coach, after winning the domestic treble last season, and thus reassuring culers that they are a strong team. And the match on Saturday, August 16th, only reinforced that.
Throughout the match, the Catalan team's dominance was evident, playing heavily in the opponent's half and quickly defending against any counterattacks that came their way. The match was not only the blaugrana's debut in La Liga, but also the debut of Catalan goalkeeper Joan García with the FC Barcelona shirt in La Liga.
Players like Pedri González, Lamine Yamal, and Raphinha have continued to work wonders on the pitch since Matchday 1, with two of them scoring two of the three goals. Raphinha opened the scoring board with the first goal in the 7th minute, giving the team the opening and confidence to continue scoring, or rather, giving that confidence to Ferran Torres, who made it 2-0 just 16 minutes later. The new bearer of the number 10 shirt, Lamine Yamal, scored the third and victory goal in aggregate time, with an assistance from Gavi.
La Liga is just getting started. Tomorrow, FC Barcelona will look for the next three points in a match against Levante in Valencia. For now, the same protagonists who made history last season are doing it again.
