Reports from Spain suggest that Barcelona have finalized their squad for the 2025/26 La Liga season, with a handful of players now deemed surplus to requirements.

While a report from AS stops short of naming every name, speculation is mounting that a key departure is imminent before the transfer window closes. Contrary to early rumors, that player is not Marc-André ter Stegen, although the German goalkeeper is reportedly at odds with the club over its efforts to financially navigate the registration of new signings.

All signs point to Marc Casado being the player most likely to leave Camp Nou. His path to a regular first-team place is blocked by the established midfield pairing of Frenkie de Jong and Pedri, with a determined Gavi also pushing hard to displace them.

Compounding his situation is the return of Marc Bernal, a highly-touted academy prospect who is back in the squad after recovering from a serious injury last year and is seen as the future of the position. Seen as the more favourable option to Casado, as Bernal has been touted to be the next regular first-team player to break through from La Masia. With the club needing to trim its wage bill and generate revenue, a sale now seems inevitable.

The transfer away

His age, talent, and the fact he plays in a high-demand position make him a valuable asset, and, more importantly, a strong potential sale for Barcelona at a time when the club desperately needs to generate income.

Casado has attracted interest from several top European clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, and Atlético Madrid, with reports suggesting Barcelona would be open to offers in the region of €30 million.

While Casado has publicly expressed his desire to stay, the intense competition for minutes and the club’s financial priorities point toward a move that could benefit all parties. His departure would not only help balance the books but also streamline Hansi Flick’s midfield options, bringing greater clarity and focus as the season kicks off.
