Dayotchanculle Upamecano has emerged as a target for Barcelona to reinforce it’s defence with a young centre-back.

Upamecano has shown under ex-Watford manager Oscar Garcia Junyent at Red Bull Salzburg. He showed a lot of promise at Valenciennes and it earned him a move to Salzburg for €2.2 million. Barcelona scouts had been tracking him from the U-17 youth tournament in Bulgaria, where his impressive performances were a key factor in France’s win. But they needed something more solid than a good showing for a youth team to mention him to the sporting director. And now, they have got just that. In his brilliant performances for his club, he has stood for the ability to bring the ball out and his excellent anticipation.

And he is also perfect for the club, who are in dire need of a young centre-back with potential. Robert had shortlisted several targets of the type in the summer but none of them came to fruition. Some of the examples are Lucas Hernandez and Yerry Mina, both of whom were strongly linked with Barcelona. He was of the brink of signing of German wonderclub RB Leipzig but he would love to join Barca. So, he has delayed his proposed move to see if Robert makes an offer for him or not in January. If Robert does not choose to go after him in the winter, we will be missing out on a wonderkid. Top sporting directors in Europe consider him one of the best young talents in the continent. That is why top Premier League clubs like Manchester City and Arsenal are also in the running for his signature.

Barcelona were very strongly linked with a move for Sanchez in the summer. The negotiations were all but over when Sanchez decided to reject his contract. He did not want to play for Barca B, even for a single year. But now it seems that he was right. He has been a revelation for Ajax since joining from Atletico Nacional in the summer at the last moment.

This is why Robert has reintroduced the idea of signing him. This time, he won’t be a ‘B’ team member but he has proven to the Barca scouts that he is good enough to merit a first-team slot. But he has caught the attention of other clubs’ scouts too. Namely, Everton and as always, Manchester City. Txixi Begristan can’t seem to get his nose out of Barca targets and players. But the main opposition Robert Fernandez has in the battle for Sanchez’s signature is Everton. Ronald Koeman is heel-bent is signing the Colombian and he might get his way if his negotiator manages to outmatch our Robert Fernandez.
