Luis “Lucho” Enrique says that he wouldn’t be furious if his top assistant, Juan Carlos Unzue, replaced him as Barcelona manager.

Despite the season not being over yet, Luis Enrique announced a few weeks ago that he is leaving Barcelona at the end of the season. This means that the process of hiring a new manager is under way. The search has gone far and wide around Europe and there are many great candidates. However, there is one emerging candidate that Lucho is very familiar with. It’s someone who is already familiar with the club.

Enrique’s top assistant Juan Carlos Unzue has become a top candidate for one of the toughest jobs in the sport. The former goalkeeper played for Barca for a short period of time. However, he is most known for playing at Sevilla for most of his career. Now, he’s the top assistant at the Catalan club. Despite the reports of Unzue being a candidate, Luis Enrique wouldn’t be frustrated with his top assistant replacing him.

"“It’s impossible for me to be angry with Juan Carlos, we’ve been friends for a long time. I think you all know my opinion from previous press conferences. I’m going to keep out of it, I think that’s best for everyone.”Lucho On Unzue Potentially Replacing HimMore from Everything BarcaFC Barcelona tracking Belgian WonderkidFC Barcelona vs Betis Player RatingsBarça boss Xavi to get contract extensionFC Barcelona planning swoop for Arsenal midfielderBarcelona interested in €30 million wonderkid"

Luis Enrique has a lot of other things he has to be focused on. Barca just drew their opponent from the 2015 Champions League final in Juventus. They’ll play again in the quarterfinals of this years Champions League. It’ll be a tough two legs for the Catalans. As for Unzue, Lucho feels that his good friend could be a great Barca manager. In addition, there are no hard feelings knowing that Enrique is on his way out of the club at the end of the season.

Unzue has experience with the current players at Barca under Lucho. However, he has little experience as a head coach. He managed Racing Santander and Numancia, but both lasted for a short period of time. He has been Luis Enrique’s assistant while at Celta Vigo and Barca.

Overall, Unzue is an emerging candidate and has been through the good times with Barcelona already. However, he’ll be evaluated along with the many great candidates around Europe and other places. We’ll see how the managerial situation plays out in Barcelona. The team has to stay focused on their preseason goals as they could be in jeopardy.
