The best player in the world, Lionel Messi, suffered a mix bag over the break but it’s ending is what puts him on the trending down list. It all started great for Messi. He scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over Chile to start the campaign. However, it got so very bad for the Argentine National Team. Lionel Messi was suspended for the game in Bolivia, which they lost 2-0. Number 10 will remain out for three of the four remaining games for Argentina. This puts Argentina’s chances of the World Cup in doubt.

The dependence on Messi still is so surprising considering the quantity of world class players on the team. If there was any doubt that Argentina needs Messi more than the other way around, the game in Bolivia was proof. Even taking into account the altitude of La Paz, the team created very little and only made 6 shots on goal! It was a very bad week for Lionel Messi. (Stats from ESPNFC)
