Lionel Messi is the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be
Lionel Messi has nothing to prove, not to himself, not to the fans, not to the media, not to the critics. He is what he is, the greatest of all time. Anyone questioning that fact is either a Real Madrid fan, or ignorant.
But this has helped him earlier, and will help him this season. But earlier, he wanted to prove himself to the critics. This season, Messi can keep it simple. He can play football without any other thing bogging him down.

Lionel Messi will break all records this season, his own and also make new ones. Last season, he carried the team on his shoulders. Messi scored 37 times and gave 9 assists. It was not his best season, but he led the team the way Diego Maradona did in 1986.
In fact, Messi has surpassed Maradona. He has surpassed almost every single player who has touched the ball, including Pele, Alfredo di Stefano and Ferenc Puskas. But this season, Messi will overcome his eternal nemesis, Cristiano Ronaldo.
Last season, he did better than the Portuguese marksman statistically, but the egoistic Ronaldo won more accolades. But this season, Lionel Messi will lead Barcelona to a treble. He has done it earlier as well, under Pep Guardiola and Luis Enrique but this time around, he will do it more spectacularly.

Messi will hopefully get the support from Valverde as he got from Guardiola and Lucho. If he is not distracted from football, the Argentine legend will make history.
