Although Barcelona are reputed to have a brilliant youth system (which is slowly declining now), the club has splurged on the transfer market. Sometimes, the purchases were successful and sometimes they weren’t.
But most of Barcelona’s signings have shined. In fact, that is why the club is where it is today. We look at Barcelona’s top 10 signings of all time.
10. Bernd Schuster
Barcelona signed Bernd Schuster from FC Köln for €1.9 million in the summer of 1980. The German revolutionised Barcelona’s midfield. His presence in the centre of the park led to the creation of more chances.
Although he often quarreled with club authorities, the fans loved him. Schuster won 7 titles in 8 seasons with Barcelona. But that is not why he features in the list. Schuster’s style of play was the precursor to Johan Cruyff’s tactics and having him was very valuable for the club.
