The Brazilian right-back joined Barcelona from Sevilla in the summer of 2008 for €35.5 million. He had to fill the shoes of Juliano Belletti who ha left for Chelsea. Alves did that, and more. He was part of a revolution led by Pep Guardiola.
He was instrumental in Barcelona’s successes in the following season. But he had a bitter spat with the board that led him to quit Barcelona. Regardless, Alves is the second-most decorated player in European competitions, with 9 medals, just behind Paolo Maldini.
He won 23 titles in 8 seasons at the Camp Nou.
