Paulinho has himself admitted that he endured the worst couple of years of his career at White Hart Lane. He struggled to fit in under André Villas-Boas, and his successor Mauricio Pochettinho. Ultimately, Spurs sold him to Chinese Super League side Guangzhou Evergrande.

Although he rejuvenated his career in China, Paulinho can never be good enough to play for Barcelona. He might score lots of goals for his national side, but he does not quite have ‘Barca DNA’.

But overlooking this fact, Josep Maria Bartomeu sanctioned a move for him. Moreover, the club shelled out €40 million to sign him. All he has done after joining Barcelona is push out La Masia product Sergi Samper out of the club.
