Barcelona were gunning for a playmaker to revive the side’s dying midfield. Andrés Iniesta desperately needs a player to support him as he moves into the twilight of his career. Till now, Denis Suárez and André Gomes have failed to do that.

But the club was aiming to solve this problem, by signing either Marco Verratti or Philippe Coutinho. Club officials have admitted to making offers for both players. But none of the bids were successful.

Paris Saint-Germain shrugged off the offers while Liverpool stood firm with their star till deadline day. This goes to show the incompetency of Barca negotiators.
