Despite Little Playing Time, Paco Alcacer Delivers In CDR Action
By Laieke Abebe
Despite not playing a lot of minutes, Paco Alcacer was able to find the back of the net in a 3-0 over Murcia in Copa Del Rey action.
In Barcelona’s 3-0 over Murcia, most of the biggest names on the team were left off of Ernesto Valverde’s squad. However, the players that did play were pretty good overall. A couple of Barca B players got their chance to play (Jose Arnaiz and Marc Cucurella). Thomas Vermaelen played in his first competitive match for the Blaugrana since March 12, 2016. Another player that hasn’t been given a lot of playing time this season is striker Paco Alcacer.
The 24-year-old Spaniard has been given little time in the La Liga and Champions League matches. However, Valverde gave Paco a chance to start in Tuesday’s Copa Del Rey match against Murcia. The striker didn’t disappoint in his time on the pitch. With a great assist from Gerard Deulofeu, Alcacer found the back of the net. It was the opening goal in an eventual triumph for the Blaugrana.

As these Copa Del Rey cycle comes around, it is good to have a striker that you can depend on so that the big names can rest. That is likely going to be Paco Alcacer’s role for the Blaugrana this season. Despite that, Luis Suarez has struggled to begin the season. While he does have a few goals to his name so far, fans are hoping for more from El Pistolero. If he needs to recuperate, Paco Alcacer will have a chance to play more in La Liga and Champions League matches.
Being a team player on a team with as much talent as Barcelona matters. It matters a lot to Paco Alcacer, who states that he is just happy that the team won. Scoring a goal was good for him, but what the team does in terms of results matter more than that.
"“It’s good to play and help the team with goals. I’m happy to have scored but more happy to have won. It was a tricky game with Murcia knowing how to play us well, especially on the counter. They are strong team at the back and were well organised. After we scored in the first half, in the second they left us more space.”Paco Alcacer On His Team’s Success"
