Barcelona consider Manchester City star Kevin de Bruyne as alternative to €150 million Philippe Coutinho

The Fenway Sports Group has lowered its asking price for Philippe Coutinho to €150 million, from the earlier €200 million. That has increased the Brazilian’s hopes of joining Barcelona in January, which is evident from the fact that he rejected Paris Saint-Germain’s offer.

But he may be a disgruntled player come January. Barcelona are now being linked with a move for Manchester City playmaker Kevin de Bruyne. Not only will De Bruyne be cheaper, he will be better too. That makes a far superior option.

Manchester City will probably play hardball, by putting a huge price tag on him. But Barcelona can include several bonuses, and add-ons to further reduce the primary fee until it is affordable. Also, there are many deadweights in the squad who can be offloaded by being included in the deal.

When it comes to talent, there is no doubt as to who is the better player. Kevin de Bruyne is the complete package, while Philippe Coutinho can contribute only when going forward. Both players can play in midfield positions, but only De Bruyne has played in midfield this season.

And the Belgian has excelled at it. He has scored 2 goals and provided 8 assists in 13 appearances this season. It seems that everything in the City tactical outline revolves around Kevin de Bruyne. He has shown a tremendous work rate this season, to ensure proper transition between defence and attack.
