4. Marc Overmars

The Dutch legend does not have fond memories of playing for Barcelona. The move from Arsenal to the Camp Nou virtually ended his playing career. But Marc Overmars has re-established himself as a prominent figure in the world of football as sporting director at Ajax.

Ever since he took over in 2012, he has played a huge role at Ajax. He has adapted to several managerial changes, having worked with Frank de Boer, Peter Bosz and Erik ten Hag. He has worked to complete several excellent signings like Lasse Schöne, Arkadiusz Milik and Davinson Sánchez.

But more importantly, he has worked with several talented youngsters like Christian Eriksen and Davy Klaasen, and continues to mentor players like Kasper Dolberg, David Neres, Justin Kluivert and Matthijs de Ligt.

He is a very good option due to his preference of working with youngsters and his sound tactical knowledge. But it is not clear whether he can make the step up to Barcelona in proper fashion. Also, he hasn’t pulled off a big-money signing yet.
