Ernesto Valverde is under pressure at Barcelona

At clubs like Barcelona, expectations are always sky-high. But at the beginning of the season, the supporters and the pundits went one step further by predicting a treble victory with the squad available to Ernesto Valverde.

Initially, the Basque coach rose up equal to the challenge, winning the first four games of the season in convincing fashion. But recently, the side’s league form has taken a dip, with the collection of just 2 points from an available 9 in the last 3 games.

The defence has been penetrable, the midfield has been shaky and the attack has failed to co-ordinate to produce results up front. Undoubtedly, the club’s start to the season has been one of its worst in recent times, despite a resounding 4-0 victory in the Champions League opener against PSV Eindhoven.

Although it is too early for the management to look into alternative managerial options, Éric Abidal is not expected to have much patience, especially considering the signings made in the summer transfer window, which were hailed as steals.

So, the Frenchman should be scouting for potential replacements for Ernesto Valverde soon.
