Real Madrid’s signing of Eden Hazard holds an opportunity for Barcelona

It is an open secret that Neymar is unhappy at Paris Saint-Germain, just 2 years after his move from Barcelona. He is frustrated with PSG’s consistent poor displays in Europe, and wants to leave. Earlier, Real Madrid were favourites to sign him, but things are changing.

Los Blancos president Florentino Pérez has chosen Eden Hazard as his next Galáctico. This ends any possibility of Neymar joining Real Madrid, as Hazard is very similar to the Brazil international. Also, Neymar’s signing could potentially harm the development of Vinícius Júnior.

This opens up a very interesting opportunity for Barça. The club is on the lookout for a marquee signing up front, a player who is versatile enough to play down the left as well as down the middle. In that case, who better than Neymar?

Although Neymar’s abrupt departure has earned him some detractors at Barça, reuniting the brilliant MSN is a temptation which is extremely hard to resist. He is still just 27, still leaving room for expansion of his legacy at Barça.

Also, PSG head coach Thomas Tuchel does not want to go into the season with stars disrupting the harmony in the dressing room like last season. He could want a mass clearout, with Neymar one of the stars set to leave.

The Parisians are also interested in signing Philippe Coutinho, which could go a long way in seeing Neymar return to his first club in Europe. Éric Abidal has proven himself to be a smart negotiator, but his ability to strike high-profile deals will be tested if Barça decide to capitalise on this opportunity.
