Semedo came through the youth system of Portuguese side, SL Benefica, where the full-back racked up three goals and 12 assists in his 65 appearances for the first-team. It was this attacking style football that attracted Barca to sign the 26-year-old back in 2017 for a transfer fee of €35.7million. Semedo has since made 101 appearances for the Catalan giants, becoming a regular part of the first-team alongside Sergi Roberto.
The Spanish champions have many reports claiming that they are on a lookout for a new right-back as an attempt to strengthen their defense and with the Portuguese’s departure, the club would have no option but to sign a new talent during the transfer window.
This alleged claim comes as a surprise as Nelson has been a regular part of the Blaugrana defense, making many appearances on both sides of the flank. The defender’s current contract expires in 2022 and he has shown on many occasions that he has the potential to become the undisputed starter as a right-back for the Spanish champions.
But the report claims that the Benefica graduate is adamant on securing more regular first-team football in order to prepare for the upcoming Euro 2020 as he is keen on representing his Country.
