Quique Setien is set out to create a mark with his time in Barcelona, starting with his attempt to sign Luis Suarez’s successor to solve their attacking issues.

The newest development suggests he wants to check whether the Barcelona board are actually willing to give him command and let him decide the course of action for the club.

More from Everything Barca

He has asked the Barca board to sign Wissam Ben Yedder, a name that wasn’t on their agenda; as he believes the player to be the perfect successor to aging striker Luis Suarez. The French striker is up for signing this winter and Setien believes the attacker would be well suited for Camp Nou with his knowledge about the Spanish League.

Ben Yedder moved to Sevilla in 2016 where he managed to appear in 138 games in 3 seasons scoring 70 goals. He has been sold to Monaco this season for a whopping fee of 40 million euros. He was also an asset to the French international team during his under 21 days and he appeared for the French team again formally in 2018.

Quique Setien believes he is worth a shot especially since he started many games from the bench during his time in Seville without any problems and this could prove advantageous while trying him out in Barca.

After his time for France, he is touted as one of the best attackers in the French Championship with an impressive 14 goals and 3 assists in 18 games. The club is willing to put in a transfer request for the 29-year-old with Ansu Fati or Ousmane Dembele for loan exchange so that they can gain the Frenchman while the Barca players get sufficient minutes in the game elsewhere; which would be especially good for the 17-year-old Fati.

With the new Barca Coach settling in with this new role, talks about the incorporation of Ben Yedder in the team will be held in the coming weeks with AS Monaco as Barca are currently without the service of Suarez due to injury and are planning to move Antoine Greizmann in his preferred role.

Do you think Ben Yedder could be the next No. 9 at the Nou Camp?
