Tottenham Hotspur coach, Jose Mourinho, is planning to use his buy option for Giovani Lo Celso in order to swap for Barcelona’s Nelson Semedo

Mourinho and Barcelona have had a rocky relationship but the arrival of Quique Setien has led many to believe in a brighter future for the Catalans and Diario Gol reports that even relationship between the club and Tottenham’s coach could improve.

More from Everything Barca

Several media outlets have reported that the Real Betis player, Giovani Lo Celso, currently loaned to Tottenham, will not be staying there after his loan spell despite the Premier League club being extremely happy with his performance.

Lo Celso has previously played under the new Barca coach during his Betis days. The technical midfielder was also linked with the Catalan side last transfer window and could still be an option for the Spanish side. Both Setien and Messi know Giovani personally and could potentially convince him to join Blaugrana.

The Spurs loanee opened up about Setien’s arrival in the Camp Nou,

"“I was able to be with him at Betis, I learned a lot with him. He made me grow both as a person and as a player. I think we understand each other very well.” said Giovani"

Mourinho has now decided that he wants to execute the buy option and later finalize an exchange deal with Barca in order to secure Nelson Semedo, who is heavily linked with an exit next summer.

The Portuguese coach is interested in the service of his countryman and knowing that the player is not the first-choice right-back at the Nou Camp could be another reason for this decision.

It remains to be seen if Sergi Roberto is still prefered over Semedo under Setien, as was the case under former manager Ernesto Valverde. This offer from Mourinho will surely interest the Catalans but they would have to sign a permanent Right-back before considering letting one of their regular starters leave.
