Barcelona’s plan to secure Lautaro Martinez in the summer is set to be blocked by Inter Milan as they prepare to increase his release clause.

As per Spanish newspaper AS, Lautaro Martinez is set to be the main summer target for Barcelona as they continue their search for a long term replacement for  Luis Suarez.

More from Everything Barca

After failing to secure a replacement in the final week of the January transfer window, Barca have reverted back to their original plan of securing the Inter Milan striker in the first two weeks of July when his release clause would be set at €111 million.

The 22-year-old has a contract running until the end of the 2022/23 campaign, and a report from Italian broadcaster, Sport Mediaset via Sempre Inter, claims that Inter are keen on offering a contract extension to the Argentine international. The striker has been in tremendous form, managing to score 16 goals along with 4 assists in 27 appearances, and has gained interests from many big European clubs like Real Madrid and Manchester City.

The new contract offered by Inter Milan is said to be providing a bigger salary to the Argentine, currently earning around €1.5 million per season which is one of the lowest in the current Inter squad. Martinez has proved that he deserves much more than that and the contract extension is an attempt to not only rectify this salary but also to tie him down with the club and blocking any transfer attempts from the many interested clubs.
