Former Barcelona prospect Thiago Alcantara asks forgiveness in hopes of securing a return as he nears the end of seven years spells with Bayern Munich.

Don Balon reports that Thiago Alcantara’s Bundesliga adventure with Bayern Munich is coming to an end with his contract expiring in 2021. The Spaniard joined the German side from Barcelona in 2013 and has since made a name for being one of the best players in his position.

The change in Bayern’s managerial role last November from Niko Kovac to Hans-Dieter Flick saw the 28-year-old lose his minutes but has since regained a spot under the new coach. It remains to be seen for how long he can retain his place in the starting eleven with his playing days at the Allianz Arena coming to an end.

Thiago has had an incredible spell in Germany but the former Barca midfielder wants to return home to La Liga. The Bavarian side have given the Spaniard a green light as the summer of 2020 would be the final one in which they could possibly make a profit from his transfer. A price tag of 50 million euros has been reported with Thiago hoping to attract his former club for a possible reunion.

Once deemed as the future successor to Xavi Hernandez’s role at the Nou Camp, Thiago now hopes that the Blaugrana board can forgive him for leaving back in 2013. A serious case can be made for his return if Ivan Rakitic and Arturo Vidal leave during the summer transfer window.

It remains to be seen, however, if Barca are willing to spend any transfer fee on the Spaniard as they look to place their focus on signing two defenders and two attackers for next season.
