The Uruguayan at 33 years of age has become prone to injuries and has looked a shadow of his former self. The Catalan giants are planning to bring a young yet proven striker this summer with Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez leading the way.
Recent injury to Ousmane Dembele, ruling him out of action for over six months, allowed Barca to sign a player despite it not being a transfer window period. Leganes striker Martin Braithwaite’s release clause of €18 million (£15 million) was met by the Catalan side in order to reinforce their attack.
Braithwaite, however, is only a short term solution to the big issue at the Nou Camp, with many names including Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Valencia’s Rodrigo being linked with a move.
Spanish Journalist Guillem Balague claims that Blaugrana have now moved their focus from Aubameyang and are focused on bringing Timo Werner to Camp Nou instead.
"“I don’t expect Aubameyang to sign for Barca in the summer, Barca don’t want him,” Balague told GentingBet via Football London“They were looking for Timo Werner, Aubameyang or Rodrigo in January but now, they need to go for a top number nine and Aubameyang is not a candidate.”"
Cules around the world want a young and talented striker to be the long term heir to the no. 9 position at Barca and Timo Werner would be the perfect man for the task.
