Former academy player believes teammate has what it takes to succeed at Barcelona.

Former Barcelona prospect Abel Ruiz left the club in search of first-team minutes. Coincidentally, he joined Sporting de Braga; the same team as one the Catalan’s newest signings, Francisco Trincao.

The two have gotten close since Ruiz arrived in Portugal and he is even staying with Trincao and another teammate during their quarantine. Ruiz believes that Trincao is more than ready to make the next jump.

More from Everything Barca

According to Mundo Deportivo, Ruiz said that Trincao is a good player, has a lot of personality and is certain things will go well for him when he joins Barcelona.

When asked to compare him to a player, Ruiz said that he closely resembles Lionel Messi. He’s a smaller left-footed forward who can dribble and take on defenders.

He did add the caveat that no one compare to Messi but that they do share similar qualities on the pitch.

Ruiz also spoke about joining Braga and how he needed to leave to get his career back on track.

He also said that Barcelona are hesitant to give academy players a chance with the senior team and that’s the reason why a lot of them wind up leaving the club.

Barcelona paid €31 million for the 20-year-old and Trincao has said that he cannot wait to join and play with Messi.

Whether or not he arrives next season is up in the air. If he does, he may go out on loan if considering all the players the Catalans are rumored to be chasing. They’ve been linked once again with Neymar and have decided to give Ousmane Dembélé another chance.

What that means for Trincao is there is going to be a lot of competition up front and as Ruiz alluded to, they do not have a good track record of giving opportunities to younger players. The ability to play any position up front, however, could play to his advantage.

Next. Barcelona make a decision on Ousmane Dembele’s future. dark

This season, he’s played 17 matches scoring six goals and providing three assists. That is a decent return for a player of his age. The likes of Juventus and Arsenal were reported to be interested as well before Barcelona scooped him up.  He has a bright future but it will be up to Barça to give him an opportunity.
