Barcelona’s plan regarding on-loan fullback takes a sharp turn.

Barcelona are going to have a lot of decisions to make over the coming months. Not only do they have to figure out who they want to sign, but they have to figure out what to do with players out on loan.

The likes of Carles Aleña, Jean-Clair Todibo and Juan Miranda are likely to be back next season. They have another player, Emerson, out on loan at Real Betis but the club apparently already have a plan laid out for him.

According to Sport, the plan now is not only not bringing him back a season early, but the plan now is to outright sell him.

Should he be brought back a season early, the Catalans would need to pay a €6 million fee to Betis. But given his success, they would not be opposed to sell him.

There is apparent interest from the likes of West Ham, Newcastle, Tottenham and Everton. Barcelona would like at least €20 million for Emerson.

The reason why many thought he would be brought back is because there are reports that the Blaugrana are considering selling Nelson Semedo.

If Semedo is sold, the club do not have a natural right-back in that position. They’d be forced to revert back to Sergi Roberto who can be a liability defensively.

While some may be surprised that the club have done an about-face, one of their goals this off-season is to make as much money they can from player sales. Emerson may not fetch much but everything counts in the eyes of the board.

Emerson gave an interview earlier in the year where he said that he felt ready to play and succeed at Barcelona right now. It seems that despite his success, if they get the right offer, he won’t get an opportunity to prove himself with the Catalan giants.
