Barcelona have been struggling to find a consistent backup for 31-year-old Jordi Alba, but have finally found a perfect candidate.

Barcelona had signed Junior Firpo in the hopes of securing a talented left-back that would replace Alba when needed but after a disappointing first season, the club are forced to look elsewhere for the right fit.

More from Everything Barca

Jordi Alba is in desperate need of a backup as the 31-year-old has shown signs that he needs proper rest. The Catalans, however, have been struggling without the Spaniard and are finding it difficult to find the proper replacement.

Along with Firpo, Marc Cucurella was also named to be the possible solution but in reality, the 21-year-old is more comfortable playing as a midfielder. Lionel Messi had recommended Argentine teammate, Nicolas Tagliafico, but the current financial situation at the club has put this plan on hold. Rumors in France reported that Layvin Kurzawa could be the ideal target as he nears the end of his contract at Paris Saint-Germain.

Barca’s technical secretary, Eric Abidal, who has played in the left-back position for many years at the Nou Camp, has recommended a fellow Frenchman to club president Josep Maria Bartomeu. Ligue 1 prospect Faitout Maouassa has been playing exceptionally well at Stade Rennais this season, helping them secure a surprising third-place finish in Ligue 1. This allows the 21-year-old to feature in next year’s Champions League campaign.

Faitout has come through the youth system of Nancy just like Barca’s Clement Lenglet and has a similar playstyle as Jordi Alba. He is extremely fast with great offensive capabilities and is said to be priced around 10 million euros. Frankly a bargain for such a talented player in a position that Barca needs desperately.
