Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, wants to sign Brazilian prospect, Gustavo Maia, if Barcelona fail to use their purchase option in the summer.

Liverpool are ready to pounce on Barcelona bound wonderkid, Gustavo Maia. The 19-year-old has been reputed by many as São Paulo’s most promising youngster.

More from Everything Barca

The Brazilian international has a price tag of only 4 million, a massive bargain in the current market. The Reds are prepared to take advantage of Barca’s missed opportunity if they fail to use their buy option this summer.

AS had reported earlier that the Catalan giants have bought Gustavo’s rights for 1 million euros and will have to spend an additional 3.5 million by June 30th to finalize the deal.

Maia, though regarded by many as an undisputed talent, may not be what the Spanish side desires. Barca have yet to publically state if they have seen enough to be convinced to make the signing but Gustavo at just 19 years of age has an equally thrilling plan B.

The youngster may not be too upset about failing to sign for Barca if Liverpool are the other option. Mundo Deportivo reports that the Premier League side are ready to sign if Barca fails to do so as boss Jurgen Klopp wants to reinforce his squad with youth and attacking depth.

The Reds already have the likes of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino upfront and see no need to spend big on a substitute player making Maia the perfect alternative.

It remains to be seen if Barca finalizes this deal especially considering the fact that they desperately require attacking reinforcements. Having said that, if the Catalans do manage to sign both Neymar and Lautaro Martinez this summer, then they would truly struggle to give Maia the minutes he needs to develop even further.
