Ousmane Dembele

Barcelona had signed Ousmane Dembele in the summer of 2017-18 after Neymar Jr had left the Camp Nou on a record-breaking transfer fee to Paris Saint-Germain. The French sensation was signed from Borussia Dortmund after taking the Bundesliga by a storm in his first season. The former Bundesliga man arrived at the Camp Nou with massive expectations along with a huge burden on his shoulder to carry as the Catalan club paid a reported fee worth 145 million euros including all expenses.

However, the 23-year-old has been considered as one the worst signing ever in the history of Barcelona due to his series of long term injuries that have sidelined the player for approximately 59 matches since 2017. Poor work-ethic and a hedonistic lifestyle has been one of the primary reasons behind the talented  French footballer’s injuries. Recent rumours from Spain claim that Ousmane Dembele has once again injured himself in training and would even miss the remainder of the season that is scheduled to start in the next couple of months.

Although the French player has the capability and the potential to turn into the world-class forward he once was at Borussia Dortmund, his recent series of injuries and lack of professionalism has cost the club heavily and the player has been considered more of a liability rather than an asset.  A move away from the Camp Nou would certainly benefit both parties, as the Catalan’s would no longer have to pay his massive wage and the French international would not receive the same amount of criticism that he receives as a Blaugrana.

Philippe Coutinho

The former Liverpool man while in England was pushing for a switch to the Camp Nou for over a season and a half until Jurgen Klopp decided to let his talismanic midfielder leave the Anfield for Barcelona. The Brazilian midfielder arrived at the Catalan city as the club’s most expensive player ever and destined to hit the ground running with Lionel Messi in the attack.

However, the Brazilian started his career off at the Camp Nou on a poor note, the forward was diagnosed with an injury on the thigh during his club medicals that kept him out of action for another three weeks.

Post recovery, the situation regarding Philippe Coutinho had not changed as the former Liverpool man struggled to understand what was demanded from him by the former Barca coach, Ernesto Valverde. The Brazilian forward was often caught out of position and showed no reminiscence of his Liverpool days where his nimble-footed feet had stunned the Premier League. The 2017-18 season ended as a disaster for Philippe Coutinho and Barcelona as the club were knocked out shamelessly against Roma in the semi-final of the Champions League.

The 2018/19 season was no different for the Brazilian forward and after a string of consistent poor performances, the club decided to loan their most expensive signing to Bayern Munich at the start of the 2019/20 season. At the Bundesliga, Coutinho did manage to his find his feet once again, however, the former Inter Milan lacked the consistency in his performances.

With Bundesliga back, Philippe Coutinho will not be participating in the remainder of the season for Bayern Munich after sustaining an injury and would be returning to the Camp Nou this summer as the Bavarian club have confirmed they will not be signing the player.

Although Quique Setien has plans to include Coutinho next season, the Brazilian may be the only shot Barca have at increasing their current limited transfer budget as the player is valued at 80 million euros and Newcastle United are keen on acquiring his services.
