Former Barcelona prospect planning a return amid contract renewal talks

Thiago Alcantara is open to making a return to Barcelona amid Bayern talk.

Recently Barcelona were opting to re-sign their former La Masia prospect to cater to his desire of making a return to Camp Nou. Once deemed as the natural heir to Andres Iniesta, Thiago Alcantara was shockingly sold back in 2013 after Pep Guardiola moved to Bayern Munich.

The Spaniard has had a fruitful career with the Bavarian side, making 228 appearances in all competitions. The 29-year-old’s current contract is expiring soon and Bayern wants to undoubtedly offer him a new contract to extend his stay.

The Spanish international, however, has asked the Bundesliga giants for more time to decide on his future after speaking to his family about making a return to his home. Sport via Bild reports that the football project at Bayern, however, has convinced the midfielder into renewing his contract with the club.

The report claims that the former La Masia graduate spoke with the hierarchy at Bayern at the beginning of the month, where they have reached closer to an agreement for a contract renewal. Bayern boss, Hans-Dieter Flick, regards both Thiago and Joshua Kimmich as players who can lead the team into further glory in the future.

Both Kimmich and Thiago have been targetted by Barca for this summer transfer window but the latest report hinders their chances of securing either of them, as the Spaniard nears an extension while Kimmich is nowhere close to an exit from Bayern.
