Barcelona nightmare as they look for solutions for their loaned players.

Barcelona have a huge problem ahead as they look for solutions concerning their loaned players during a transfer market which is deeply affected by COVID-19.

More from Everything Barca

La Liga will soon return after months of shutdown as a result of the ongoing coronavirus crisis. Bundesliga has already begun with other major football leagues like Premier League and Serie A preparing to follow.

The pandemic has caused major problems for loaned players and their parent clubs as all the major leagues and tournaments such as La Liga and Champions League are to be played beyond their usual closure date of June 30. COVID-19 has pushed back the dates for all sporting events but the same has not been implemented for the tenure of these loaned periods.

All the players that have their loan duration ending this summer will return to their parent club by June 30, a date that is far earlier than the dates when the leagues and tournaments are actually ending. There is a real sense of legal uncertainty when it comes to the solution to this problem.

Barca have four first-team footballers loaned with most notable being Philippe Coutinho. Carles Alena, Jean-Clair Todibo, and Rafinha Alcantara who are alongside the Brazilian midfielder when it comes to players with uncertain futures.

These players, along with the countless others at different clubs, are uncertain whether they will be playing for their parent club or their loaned ones when the loan expiration date exceeds. They might be forced to extend their loan periods by another few months that would coincide with the endeavors of their respective clubs.

But the real issue is the salaries of these players as clubs may refuse to pay their weekly wages after the loan period ends. All the clubs have been struggling financially and to host loaned players for few more months may be a real issue. Having said that, even many parent clubs may not want their players back as they are also struggling to balance their books.

Barca are in a similar position as the salaries for these players can rack up to 8 million euros as per Marca. Money, at the moment, is really important for them as they are already struggling to balance their financial books amid massive transfer targets such as Lautaro Martinez and Miralem Pjanic.

The Spanish League and UEFA are yet to bring solutions to this matter but the general idea is that the loaned players will continue with their respective teams for the duration of the competition. The problem is that an official agreement between Barca and these various clubs, that currently host Barca’s players, is yet to be reached.

For example, in the case of Coutinho, Bayern Munich will have to keep him until August end which will cost them an additional 5 million euros. The Bundesliga side have already paid Barca the annual loan deal but will now have to pay this additional amount, proving to be a real problem not only for Bayern but also in world football.

A similar problem arises with Todibo as Schalke have rejected to use their purchase option to sign the player permanently. Barca were hoping to sell the defender to boost their accounts but will have to look elsewhere. The problem is that if they do find a potential buyer, will the new club pay Schalke’s loan fee for these additional months or will Barca have to endure the consequences.
