Barcelona want to scare away interested clubs.
Barcelona have set a priority on who they want to extend new contracts to ahead of next season. The usual suspects like Lionel Messi and Marc-Andre ter Stegen are on the list.
Another player on the list is their newest wunderkind, Ansu Fati.

According to Mundo Deportivo, once he regains some of the protagonism from earlier in the season, the club have promised him that they’ll present him a three-year contract extension.
More importantly, they will also increase his buy-out clause from €170 million to €400 million.
The Catalans do not want what happened to Neymar to happen again with Fati. The substantial increase, in their minds, will make other clubs think twice in trying to sign him
It makes sense but to put the condition that he has to feature or perform similar to how he did in the first half of the season seems unrealistic.
With Antonie Griezmann, Martin Braithwaite, and Lionel Messi all healthy and ready to go, he’s unlikely to play much once the season gets back underway.
Not to mention the fact that Luis Suarez recently received the medical green light. As it stands, Fati is likely fifth on the depth chart.
Barcelona recently rejected a mega-offer for Fati.
Fati’s emergence this season at Barcelona has drawn the eyes of other clubs. Josep Maria Bartomeu mentioned in a recent meeting that he had rejected a deal worth €100 million and declared the player not for sale.
The identity of the bidding club, however, was not disclosed.
Borussia Dortmund were rumored to be interested a while back but judging by the Bartomeu’s words, he isn’t going anywhere.
As far as how the rest of the season is going to go for Fati, the idea is that he’ll train and be part of the first team. But if he isn’t getting the necessary playing time, then he’ll go down and play for Barça B who are in the middle of the playoff picture in the hunt for promotion.
He’s only 17 and has a bright future ahead of him. Barcelona would be smart in locking him up sooner rather than later. We’ve seen plenty of La Masia players leave in the past couple of seasons and they definitely don’t want Fati’s name to wind up on that list.
