Barca were heavily linked to sign Miralem Pjanic with the Italian giants demanding a player of equal caliber in return. The Old Lady were keen on signing Arthur Melo but the player was adamant on remaining at Camp Nou quoting Xavi and Andres Iniesta as his role models.

A major update comes directly from the Sporting Director from Allianz Stadium, Fabio Paratici, claiming that the midfielder will have to be convinced as negotiations have led to an agreement with Barca.

"“We have spoken frequently with Barcelona, but at this moment all the teams are playing important games, so we preferred to bypass this period, It’s not about June 30, before or after, but about finding an agreement between the various parties, and both players have to be convinced. Therefore, it’s not an issue about dates.” Paratici told Sky Sport Italia.Source Goal"

These were Paratici’s remarks over the matter after the latest match where the Serie A champion defeated Bologna. The negotiations have since reached advanced stages with reports claiming the two clubs have already finalized a move for Arthur for 80 million euros.

Why has the deal not yet been finalized?

Arthur has made his intentions very clear as he wants to remain at Barca with both Inter Milan and Juventus heavily desiring the Brazilian’s services.

The 23-year-old opened up about his transfer saying,

"“There will always be speculation but, sincerely, my idea is very clear. The only option that interests me is to continue at Barcelona. I’m very secure and relaxed. I feel really well here and, plus, I’m grateful to the club and technical staff for their confidence. This is yet another reason to be totally clear that my only desire is to continue.”Source Mundo Deportivo."

Arthur joined Camp Nou in 2018 for 31 million euros with an additional 9 million to be paid in variables. Many deemed Arthur to succeed alongside Frenkie de Jong and Riqui Puig as the future trio of the legendary Barca midfield, but the Brazilian has failed to convince the hierarchy of his worth.

It remains to be seen if the player agrees to the move but in reality, Arthur is being pressured by both sides. Miralem Pjanic is likely to join the Catalans next season but at 30 years of age, will not be the long term solution to the midfield issue at Camp Nou.

Should Arthur sign for Juventus if Barca have already agreed to a deal?
